Necron Apocalypse Obelisk

I have always wanted a Necron Pylon from Forgeworld but to be frank, I can't justify the cost. So this is going to be my next best thing.

I took the template for my normal obelisks and enlarged it until the top was the same size as my cyborg monolith. Then I changed the file so that the top of the apocalypse obelisk was flat.

Now I have a model that I can either use as a terrain piece for normal games or as a Pylon if I ever play a game of Apocalypse.

There are a few bugs in the big model but once I have worked them out I will move it to the lasercutcard.co.za web store. This will probably be early next year.

C'Tan Shard

This blog was supposed to be about how I was going to try and paint everything I had that was unpainted. 

It as been hijacked a little by LaserCutCard but that is not to say that I am not doing any "normal" painting.

I always had this model but I did not like the paint job. 

I was painting up some new obelisks and I thought that I would give the C'Tan the same parabronze treatment so that it looks like it is formed from the same material as all the other buildings on my Necron table.

Necron Objective Markers

I played a game of 40k recently that required objective markers that had variable points.

After scrabbling around with pieces of paper and a pen I decided to make my own.

These are cut from two layers of 1mm thick cardboard glued together.

The top layer has a generic glyph on it.

The bottom layer has the points value of the objective in decimal and in binary.

If the font looks familiar, it is a freeware version of the Terminator font. 

How could I not use that?

Necron Quad Cannon (Kit)

I took the jump and had a crack at painting the cardboard up as a crystal. 

I think it worked well enough to be doable.

These models are relatively uncomplicated in terms of cut time so I am offering them as a twin pack.

You get two models in the pack and each one can either be assembled with the crystal or with the flat top.

Necron Obelisk (Kit)

I finished painting the obelisks last night.

I will probably use them as mysterious objectives in games where you never know what the thing is going to do until you get near it.

They are up in the store as a twin pack (two per set).

Necron Quad Cannon WIP

This is something I am trying out to see if it can work.

I want a quad cannon to go with my defense line and have been using the square obelisk up till now.

I thought it might be cool to have a big crystal on the top to represent some sort of firing mechanism.

Of course I will have to see what this looks like painted up as the "crystal" is cardboard and will have to be painted rather sneakily to look like crystal but still... the idea is there and I think it is a worthwhile "counts as".

Necron scenery - obelisk WIP

This is a WIP for a new piece for my Cyborg range that fits in well with Necrons.

It is modelled on Cleopatra's Needle and will probably be available in packs of 3 or as singles.

I want to paint it up first to see how it looks but will probably have it in the web store (http://www.lasercutcard.co.za) by the end of the week

Night scythe redux

It was a fairly productive weekend actually. Not only did I finally finish the deathmarks, I also managed to finish off my second night scythe / doom scythe.

Now to just find the time to play a game.... 

Deathmarks

I finally got round to finishing off my deathmark assassins. They have been based on two different styles of base, giving me the option of fielding one unit of 10 or 2 x 5.

The two of five is something I will consider as their ability to mark a unit each will probably come in handy at some stage.

Cyborg Obelisk (final version)

The final version of the obelisk is complete.

This one has a more substantial base and some roof detailing.

I am intending to use it as a "counts as" quad cannon for my defense line (and maybe later build an actual gun to sit on top) but for now it is fine as is.

I am waiting for the final costing to come back from the laser cutter and then I will offer it in the store. It is a relatively simple model so I am hoping it will be cheap.

Cyborg Obelisk Kit

I did another test cut for the Cyborg obelisk (the new version is the unpainted one).

This one fits together better, has a base and has a thicker cap stone that also has some extra detailing on it.

I don't have a price for it yet but it should come in under $10

Necron Doom Scythe

August really seems to be the month of the necrons. 

After doing all the fiddly bits on the wraiths I thought I deserved a nice simple kit.

I broke out the airbrush for this one in an attempt to try and get some skills with it.

All in all, a fantastic kit and thanks to the airbrush, I managed to paint it in one day.

Necron Wraiths Part 2

It has been a slow week for model painting but I have managed to finish off my other three wraiths.

This brings the army total to six and there are no plans to grow this in the near future.

I trided something new with these guys - I used the lasercut bases and gave them a bronze colourscheme with glowing green inserts. I used this colour scheme on the tomb blades weapons and I am going to rebase all the models I have using it. It is also going to be my go-to colour scheme for all the necron weapons.

Necron Tomb Blades

I have been caught up a little in trying to finish the barricade set and so have neglected my painting a little.

The necrons' sole reinforcements this week are three tomb blades.

Notable for me is that this is the first kit I have ever adapted to use magnetised weapons.

Necron Aegis Defense Line

With the new version of Warhammer 40k allowing fortifications to be bought as part of your army, I wanted to try and make something for my necrons (given that the only kit available is for the Imperial Armies). So this is my version of the Aegis Defense Line with a necron theme.

There are two main sub components, a short and a long barricade. The short has two vanes/spars and the long has four.

The barricades are made from laser-cut cardboard that is 1.3mm thick which sandwiches a layer of clear perspex that is 1.5mm thick. The perspex was also laser cut.

The perspex was spraypainted with a thin coat of gloss green as I cannot get tinted perspex at that thickness.

Everything was painted before assembly.

There are three sets of the long/short barricades and these can be stacked to make a sizable defensive perimeter.

The necron glyphs are repeated on the back of the piece in a mirror of the front. The translucent green is supposed to represent an energy field rather than a physical material, with the little pieces being suspended in it.

Necron Defense Line

Since 40kv6 allows fortifications and since my necrons would never stoop to using filthy imperial kit (you never know WHERE they have been) I have decided to make my own.

First up will be a necron aegis defense line.

I have got this far - doing a test cut of the main subcomponent in 1300micron cardboard.

There are a few mistakes with this design but once I have corrected them in the CAD file I will have a full set cut. Watch this space....

Necron Canoptek Wraiths

I have completed the first of my "new" necrons, part of a large order done for my birthday.

The canoptek wraith models are incredibly detailed an brilliant to paint. 

I rushed the paint job a little as I was eager to get them on the table but I have another three still to paint and I will take my time with those.

The back carapace was painted with an airbrush and have a nice gradient from blue to dark blue. This is the first infantry-level model I have tried to use an airbrush on and it was a learning curve. Next time I will paint more of it on the sprue.
